The brief for this project was to design 3 events that would play out within sections of the fictional city of Waterdeep in the Dungeons & Dragons setting.

 

The project I decided to build was a mission to destroy a smuggling ring within the city.

 

Mechanically, the game is basic, but the project was to focus more on the design of the level and how the player is controlled within. The planning of the stage was split into multiple sections and maps were made to give an outline for the level.

 

From this project, I've learnt about making sure that scale is consistent throughout, and translating this into the game itself. I have also learnt about different techniques that can be used to plan a level. From designing maps to planning out the entire game beforehand. This has given me a better set of skills to work on further projects.

 

Keeping this in mind, the project progressed well from beginning to end. With the stage having few modifications to what was designed on paper. The gameplay changed from what was intended as the combat of the game is quicker than expected. But because of this, the level is smoother to progress through.
